7 Natural Flea and Tick Remedies.

It’s the season again! The creepy crawlers are back in full force.

Don’t you just hate returning from a nice walk in the woods and seeing your dog covered in ticks. You have to pull them off quickly before they do any damage to your dog.

These creatures hide in tall grasses and latch on to your dog when they pass by.

Here are some natural remedies that will help your dog during flea and tick season.

1) Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV has many health benefits. Either internally or externally. You can add a little to your dog’s food bowl or make a 50/50 spray solution. Half water and half ACV. The acidity will make your dog less attractive to fleas and ticks. Spray them before walks and you will be good to go.

2) Crab Apple Flower Essence

Crab apple flower essence is one of the Bach flower essences that will help repel fleas and ticks. It can be used internally and in a spray.

Crab apple essence is also good for dogs who have itchy skin.

3) Essential oil blends

There are many essential oils that will repel insects. A lot of natural products will have essential oils added in already.

Best essential oil insect repellents are:

- Eucalyptus (Radiata)

- Lavender

- Peppermint

                                                                               - Cedar

Essentials oils always need to be used with a carrier oil. Essential oils can be dangerous and toxic when used incorrectly. It is never a good idea to use them if you have no idea how they work.

4) Garlic

Garlic has always been on the list of being toxic to dogs. It is, but in low doses it can help your dog being protected against bugs. Nowadays a lot of products are on the market containing garlic.

Fresh organic garlic can be given a quarter clove per 10 pounds. Never give more than 2 cloves.

5) Cut the grass

The shorter you keep the grass, the better. Fleas and ticks love to hide out in it. By mowing your grass, your dog will have less chance to get struck by these bugs.

6) Diatomaceous earth (food grade)

Diatomaceous earth is really fine powder that will dry out the bugs once they get in contact with it.

The dust can give issues when being inhaled so be careful when using it on your dog or around your home.

7) Raw Amber Stone Collars

Real Baltic Amber will create a safe invisible barrier that will detest bugs. Due to the electrostatic electricity they produce, insects will not be able to stay on your pet.

When looking for Amber stones, make sure they are not polished, because that will not give the desired effect.

When you do spot a tick or a flea, make sure to get them of your dog immediately. Use a natural shampoo to wash your dog with when they have fleas. When you remove a tick, clean the spot.

Tick can be carriers of Lyme disease and you want to prevent your dog from catching it.

Enjoy your walks!
